You asked, and we listened! This year we have a special college-age track full of workshops and activities geared toward older students. Come make new friends, network with peers, and share ideas about what’s happening at home and on campus.

Summary: America’s famously sex-negative culture has been especially harmful to GLBT people.  GLBT clinical sexologist Dr. Martin McCombs illuminates with humor and hubris the often bizarre ideological perspectives responsible for these distortions in history affecting us to this day.  Audience participation, GLBT clinical sexology treatment issues explored, Q/A period included.

Summary: We can never predict what will happen after we come out. Besides “a time and place for everything,” there’s also a who, what, why, and how. People have multiple identities, meaning we come out many times in different ways; each time as important as the first one. That’s why we must be prepared and this workshop will help you explore that!

Summary: Dream Yourself Awake:  Ever want to know the meaning behind dreams?  Dreams are mystical and profound and we all have them. Unlock the secrets of dream interpretation and learn how to connect to the amazing world of your unconscious mind.

Session 1 Title: Fight Like a Queer -- Martial Arts from Supernova Dojo Location:  Alumni Park
Summary: Sure it gets better. But until it does, will you defend yourself? As part of LifeWorks, Supernova brings self defense, martial arts, and physical fitness to LGBT youth. We're not just queer friendly--we're queer. Comfortable clothes advisable, but everyone is welcome!

Summary: You are valued and loved by God!  This workshop will support that statement and will give you basic information on what the Bible "really" says about homosexuality.  The information received can encourage, comfort, and help you when dealing with those who say otherwise.

Summary: Having a hard time running your Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA)? Running out of ideas on activities? Then come learn how to make your GSA the best possible club it can be!

Session 1 Title: I Am NOT a Sin! Location:  VKC 106
Summary: This workshop will deal with homophobia in the Black church. We will examine the scriptures used to demonize LGBTQ individuals and provide clarity to what those verses are really saying. Youth will have an opportunity to ask questions and receive answers that will affirm who they are in God.

Session 1 Title: Know Your Rights When Stopped by Police! Location:  THH 114
Summary: Can police stop you for no reason?  Are they allowed to search you without probable cause?  LGBTQ youth are especially vulnerable to police misconduct and often have these questions.  Workshop participants will learn their legal rights when interacting with law enforcement, tips on effective communication, and legal resources.

Session 1 Title: My Life is a Reality Show! Location:  Tutor Ballroom Stage
Summary: This workshop will explore how to use elements of life experiences and turn them into live theater. Participants will use theater techniques as a source of untying tongues to allow LGBTQ youth to express their sexuality and build self-esteem.

Session 1 Title: Queer Time Travel Location:  Rosen Theater
Summary: A dizzying roller coaster ride of the events that led up to gay liberation and Stonewall, including the courageous men and women whose shoulders we as a tall and proud GLBTQ community stand on today. Fascinating tales of war, sex, the pill and rock-n-roll told by someone who lived through it.

Session 1 Title: Radical Youth Media-Making for Super Queeroes and Heroes Location:  THH 118
Summary: Your mission: Uncover the villainous reasons why LGBTQ youth are left out of media. Take down the empire of stereotypes by creating films and other media projects that are a true reflection of you. Watch youth-made sex ed films and discuss strategies for the new era of Super Queeroes.

Session 1 Title: Saving Lives: Suicide Prevention for LGBT Youth Location:  VKC 109
Summary: LGBT youth are four times more likely to become suicidal than their straight peers.  This workshop addresses the warning signs of LGBTQ depression and suicide and how to help a suicidal peer.   Youth who were suicidal will share their experiences in order to assist others in getting help.   Videotape illustratess

Summary: A hands-on workshop to give you tools, techniques, and stereotype-destroying powers!  Through media, personal experience, books and writing, we’ll review how GLBTQ stories are excluded from the myths of our culture and create new myths to empower each of you to embrace your authentic self.

Summary: That’s So Gay! is a one-person performance which explores the coming out process of a first generation Croatian American.  This original work chronicles the personal and public struggles of coming to terms with one’s sexuality.  That’s So Gay! asks: Does this performance subvert dominant ideologies and work to expand possibilities for non-normative identities?

Session 1 Title: The Young Persons Guide to Raising Parents Location:  THH 108
Summary: This interactive workshop will use group discussion and role-playing to discuss ways to manage relationships with parents, whether they are biological, step, adoptive or “alternative.”  Topics will be both philosophical and practical in nature.  We will practice compassionately setting boundaries and dealing with parents' reactions.  Please bring an open mind and your sense of humor.

Session 1 Title: To Transgress and Transform: Transgender College Students and Institutional Change Location:  THH 211
Summary: Between birth privilege and gender queer, there is a world of experience.  This interactive session will delve into broad-based issues impacting transgender youth, ranging from identity development and transphobia, to transgender college student life.  Focus will be directed toward advocacy strategies to make proactive change on college campuses.

Summary: The Rev. Rick Eisenlord, M.Div., openly gay Pastor of Good Shepherd Church Pasadena discusses faith, the Bible, God and the LGBTQ Community. What does the Bible really say about homosexuality? And why? A Question & Answer period will be provided.

Summary: The last five years has seen an explosion of young adult literature more sophisticated than just coming out stories: titles that celebrate LGBT youth, reveal their vulnerabilities, and highlight connections to family.  Learn about award-winning titles that can spark class discussions or entice a GSA to start a book club.

Session 2 Title: Building a Safe School for LGBTQ & Ally Students Location:  VKC 101
Summary: Want to learn what it takes to really make a school safe and accepting for LGBTQ & Ally students?
Come to this fun workshop and you'll learn:
- How to change your school rules so that they work for LGBTQ & Ally students.
- How to use Days of Action, like the Day of Silence, as part of a bigger campaign to transform your school.
- How you can educate students, teachers, staff and parents to support the rights of LGBTQ & Ally people.

Summary: Everyone deserves a safe and healthy relationship.  Dating Abuse 101 helps young people recognize the types of abuse, warnings signs, obstacles and how digital communication and pop culture influence the dynamics of dating. Learn about ways to help you or a friend prevent and safely end an unhealthy relationship.

Session 2 Title: Gender Kaleidoscope: Participatory Image Theatre Location:  VKC 109
Summary: Embody transformation! In this workshop, we will use our bodies to make physical images of who we are and where we are going, as we explore the possibilities and implications of defining our own genders. Open to all genders. Absolutely no theatre experience necessary

Session 2 Title: HealthRHYTHMS Drum Circle Location:  Alumni Park
Summary: Discover unconditional acceptance and well being through the power of music.  HealthRHYTHMS is a research-based program for facilitating communication, reducing stress, and boosting your immune system.  Featured on CNN, HealthRHYTHMS is effective at bringing people of all ages together in a variety of settings.  No prior musical experience required.

Session 2 Title: I AM Queer & Fabulous Location:  THH 109
Summary: There is no reason to ever feel “not good enough.”  In this fun and interactive workshop, participants will learn to turn negative self-talk and mind-mucking junk into a powerful “I AM” contract.  Discover what is already amazing about yourself and step into your queer and fabulous power NOW!

Session 2 Title: I Want My Queer TV: Analyzing LGBT Characters in Pop Culture Location:  THH 119
Summary: Tune-in for a discussion on LGBTQ visibility on TV!  We’ll flip through the channels of history by exploring 50 years of queer characters and learn about common TV tropes and stereotypes of the LGBTQ community.  Lastly, an interactive survey of current representations will help you discover your media literacy potential.

Summary: Have you ever said "I am just not good at interviewing." Effective interviewing is a skill that can be improved through preparation and practice. Come learn how to answer behavioral-based and other commonly-asked interview questions.  Get tips on how to prepare, what to expect, and how to avoid interview mistakes from dress to demeanor.

Session 2 Title: Me and This HIV Thing Location:  THH 217
Summary: Anyone can google it, but can we decipher through all the junk? Come find out the truth about HIV/AIDS from health educators and counselors as they answer YOUR questions. We will discuss everything from general information, prevention and treatment, to the role drugs and alcohol play in today’s world of peer pressure. Bring your questions, your friends and… yourself!

Session 2 Title: Mind the Gap: Building Bridges Between the LGB, Allies and Trans Communities Location:  VKC 108
Summary: Create a safe environment for the trans community and allies to learn what’s safe to ask and not ask.  Discuss how trans issues are connected to the bigger picture.  Learn how trans people have a value in our society and how we all benefit from building this alliance.

Session 2 Title: Navigating Gender Differences in School and Social Settings Location:  THH 114
Summary: Do you or your friends feel isolated by the existence of just two genders? Do you get hassled for your gender expression? Discuss this and more with a transwoman who’s a successful businessperson, and the proud activist mom of a college-age transman. Come talk about respecting gender diverse individuals with Trans Youth Family Allies. TYFA, fighting for rights of gender-variant and questioning youth since 2006.

Session 2 Title: Playing with Toys to Land Your Dream Job Location:  THH 116
Summary: Many LGBT people grow up feeling that they are different.  We often spend a lot of time trying to fit in.  This workshop shows examples of how the things that make us different as kids are the same things that can help us stand out as adults.  We will hear stories from Mattel employees in a variety of roles, including some who turned their love of playing with toys or fashion into fun and exciting careers in Design.  Find out some of the secrets to doing what you love and loving what you do.

Session 2 Title: Queer Closets: Sexual Fluidity and the Identity Politics of Sexual Attraction Location:  THH 202
Summary: Have you struggled with how to label yourself within the queer community and beyond?  Do sexual identity labels and categorization not seem adequate? Research shows that many do not limit themselves in whom they find sexually desirable. Participants will voice their experiences about the multiple closets they navigate.

Session 2 Title: Queer History 101- What they didn't teach you in school. Location:  VKC 105
Summary: George Washington! Martin Luther King Jr.! Harvey Milk! Harvey Who? Exactly! While current history lessons in California schools require that students learn the contributions of men, women, Mexican-Americans, African-Americans and others; gay, lesbian, and disabled leaders are not included. Governor Brown aims to change this, but he needs your help!

Session 2 Title: Queering the College Search Process: How to Find the Perfect School For You Location:  THH 106
Summary: Are you thinking about college? What institution is right for you? Come to this interactive workshop to learn how to identify innovative and LGBTQ-friendly campuses. Take part in case studies; learn how to best navigate your college search; and get lots of resources from professionals in higher education!

Session 2 Title: So You Think You Want To Be in the Arts? Location:  THH 201
Summary: Actors, Singers, Dancers, Musicians, Directors, Visual Artist and Playwrights learn what it really means to live a life in the arts. This workshop is for those who are interested in all aspects of the arts.

Session 2 Title: So You Want To Be A Writer Location:  THH 112
Summary: We all have stories we are dying to tell… come meet the people who have written them down.  Each year The Outfest Film Festival hosts a 3-Day Intensive Screenwriting Lab in which 5 fellows, from over 100 applicants, are invited based on an LGBT-themed script they have written.  Together, we will watch a selection of their short films and then you will have an opportunity to participate in reading scenes aloud from LGBT films and discuss how to create a scene on the page.   They can’t wait to teach you how to start writing your script!

Session 2 Title: Stop callin’, stop callin’, I don’t wanna talk anymore! Location:  THH 211
Summary: What is a healthy relationship anyway? This session will examine Queer and LGBTQ relationships in relation to self-esteem, identify healthy forms of intimacy and communication, as well as, what types of behaviors and/or patterns within intimate relationships can be unhealthy or cross over into being abusive.

Session 2 Title: Students Unite, Fight Back & Win Location:  THH 105
Summary: Improve your organizing skills. Discuss winning tactics. By the end of this workshop you will be a more effective, empowered organizer. Stop attacks on transgender students. Kick military recruiters off your campus. Organize students and build unity between diverse communities. Lead street marches to win LGBT equality AND oppose racism.

Session 2 Title: Tell Your Story: A Filmmaking Workshop Location:  THH 102
Summary: Tell YOUR Story: A Filmmaking Workshop is a workshop where we screen the award-winning short film, Sarang Song, that features lesbian protagonists - written, directed and produced by filmmaker Tamika Miller. After the 15-minute film screening, a lively discussion ensues on the importance of telling LGBT stories and how you, using numerous media outlets, can craft and produce your own content.

Session 2 Title: The Bathroom Problem Location:  VKC 110
Summary: In this workshop we will screen my 30 minute documentary film It Gets Messy in Here. This film engages the intersections of race, gender, and sexuality through conversations with transgender men and masculine of center people of color. After the screening there will be room for Q&A and we will also conduct some interactive activities that will help us to build greater consciousness around gender, race and sexuality and how those things affect our daily lives.

Session 2 Title: The Legal Rights of LGBTQIA Students Location:  THH 118
Summary: Do you have the right to come out at school?  Do you have the right to form a gay-straight alliance at your school?  May you take a same-sex date to the prom?  This workshop will provide answers to these and other questions regarding the legal rights of LGBTQIA students.

Session 2 Title: The Queer Grandparents You Wish You Had Location:  THH 101
Summary: Love… Activism… Survival. Gather ‘round as our LGBTQ elders break it down on how it used to be growing up queer. Whether it’s running from police for being gay or recalling their first crush, to standing up for us all, join us for a screening and inter-generational discussion of the documentary ON THESE SHOULDERS WE STAND.

Session 2 Title: Why Does Religion Matter to Me Anyway? Location:  VKC 106
Summary: In a light conversational style, the facilitator will show that the Christian Bible is gay-affirming after all!  This workshop explores spirituality and the Christian faith as a fulfilling segment to a complete life, even in the LGBTQ community.  Religion – and God’s unconditional love – does indeed matter!

Session 2 Title: Y.C.A.R.E. - How You Can Help a Suicidal Person Location:  THH 121
Summary: Suicide is preventable. The majority of young people considering suicide give some sort of clue about their intentions. Come learn vital skills to help someone if they are depressed or exhibiting any warnings signs.  We will also discuss ways to take care of yourself. Everyone has stress in their lives and sometimes we get overwhelmed. You are never alone.  When YOU Care, you can help save a life!

Session 2 Title: Your Body, Your Rules: Talking About Sex & Intimacy for Trans Youth Location:  VKC 111
Summary: Intimacy is an innate need, but transgender, transsexual, genderqueer and gender diverse people have complex relationships with their bodies which can make physical and sexual intimacy difficult. This workshop will discuss healthy ways to communicate with a partner about desire, likes/dislikes, boundaries, feelings, thoughts, fantasies, sexual history, safer sex, and pregnancy.

Session 3 Title: A look at CHANGE along with a tale of THE MAIDEN AND THE PRINCESS Location:  THH 201
Summary: Join us for a screening of two short films from this year’s Outfest: The Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, followed by a discussion and Q&A with the filmmakers.

Session 3 Title: ACTivism - What Drives You to Act? Location:  THH 119
Summary: A panel of your peers will discuss their personal stories about what inspires them to be activists in the LGBTQ community.  Come share your own passionate views on how you express yourself as an activist.  Is activism marching in a parade? Wearing a t-shirt? Just being yourself? YOU tell us!!

Summary: This workshop will focus on the things you must know when applying to college, as well as how to finance your education. We will discuss the financial aid process and other sources of funding for college.

Summary: Al contar tu historia en los medios puedes cambiar el pensar de millones de personas. La Alianza Gay y Lésbica Contra la Difamación (GLAAD) conducirá una clase para enseñar como mejor comunicar en los medios. Aprende como preparar tu mensaje, como hacer la entrevista, como usar las redes sociales y mucho más.

Session 3 Title: But I don't want to pick a team... Location:  VKC 109
Summary: Tired of people rolling their eyes when you say you're bisexual? This is the workshop for you! Bisexuals are the largest population in the LGBT community, yet their needs go unaddressed and their very existence is still called into question. Not cool! Join us as we explore the serious consequences of Bisexual Invisibility, and what can be done to change it.

Session 3 Title: Coming Out to Family Location:  THH 112
Summary: Talking about sexual orientation or gender identity with your family can be scary.  What can make it easier for you and them?  Parents and gay members from the LGBT support organization PFLAG will give you helpful tips from both sides of the conversation.

Session 3 Title: Family, Culture and Coming Out: Vive tu Vida de Colores Location:  THH 108
Summary: This workshop will focus on issues surrounding family, coming out, cultural stereotypes and stigmas. The bilingual documentary De Colores (28 minutes) will illustrate how Latino culture cannot be denied, but embraced, replacing deep roots of homophobia with the even deeper roots of love and tolerance. We will also perform a short skit and share coming out stories.

Session 3 Title: Getting to the bottom of things Location:  THH 217
Summary: Getting to the Bottom of Things will provide awareness of proper anal health and the importance of HIV/STI prevention for queer youth. We will be incorporating a youth-friendly perspective on proper cleaning, terminology, and protection of the anus giving youth a chance to practice living a healthier lifestyle.

Summary: Too often, youth and young adults lack mentorship/role models to foster meaningful connections. This one-of-a-kind workshop offers the opportunity to learn key ingredients in building healthy relationships with friends, family and romantic partners. Participants will be fully engaged in this dynamic workshop.

Session 3 Title: Heterosexism and Me Location:  THH 106
Summary: This hands-on art therapy workshop will explore issues of heterosexism and how they negatively affect society. Each member will be invited to create a personal piece of artwork about same sex attraction that they can share with the group. Participants will discuss the ways that heterosexism affects them personally with the goal of gaining more clarity about it, as well as realizing they are not alone in these feelings.

Session 3 Title: How to find an LGBT-Friendly College? Location:  THH 102
Summary: Finding a college or university that supports lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) and ally students can be exceedingly difficult--even for a potential student who has been openly gay in high school.  Over the last few years, a growing visible population of LGBT youth have emerged for college recruitment efforts. These out LGBT youth want to find colleges that not only meet their academic needs but also provide a welcoming, safe, accepting environment.

Session 3 Title: In Their Own Words: Proposition 8 and the Fight for Equality Location:  THH 121
Summary: The lead plaintiffs in the Proposition 8 lawsuit will discuss their role in this landmark case challenging California’s marriage ban as a violation of the United States Constitution.  They will talk about the history of the fight for marriage equality in California, and how this lawsuit has been a game changer.

Session 3 Title: Introduction to "The Council Circle" Location:  VKC 110
Summary: “We need to listen fully.

Council is the practice of compassionate, heartfelt expression and empathic, non-judgmental listening.

Summary: Learn how to incorporate LGBT-related activities and experiences into your cover letter, resume and interview responses in an appropriate and professional manner.

Summary: This is a workshop that allows a person to put their fist up in the air with a pen and a notepad in tow in order to lyrically coat the world he or she lives in.

Session 3 Title: My Journey to Me - Self Discovery Through Gender Identity Location:  VKC 111
Summary: The journey to self-discovery for transgender/gender-queer individuals is not only difficult, but at times seemingly impossible to attain. This workshop hopes to provide the participants with the ability to begin exploring their gender identity through education, defining who they are, and developing a sense of self through the use of creative expression.

Session 3 Title: People Are Watching! How Your Reputation Now Can Affect Your Success Later Location:  THH 202
Summary: Within one quarter of one second, you have been sized-up! Your ability to leverage your education and pursue a career path of your choosing largely depends on the image you portray and how others perceive you. Learn to use your distinguishing characteristics to make a lasting impression.

Summary: Express yourself! This is your chance to do a scene from a play, sing a song, read a poem, share a short story, dance, play an instrument or any other form of artistic expression and get feedback from Actor/Singer Kelly Mantle.

Summary: This is a fun, uncensored presentation about how your body works. Every decision, feeling of joy, sadness, or sexual attraction is body chemistry! Are you depressed, in love, angry, or inspired? Get more of what you WANT! What you THINK, DO, and what you LISTEN TO matters!

Session 3 Title: Show Me Yours and I’ll Show You Mine: Youth, Sexting, and the Law Location:  THH 114
Summary: Sexting can seem fun and harmless, but it is a risky activity. There are serious social and legal consequences that come with sexting, all of which are avoidable! Learn why sexting ruins lives and how you can protect yourself.

Session 3 Title: Speak Out! Amplify Your Voice for Equality Location:  VKC 101
Summary: By telling our stories in the media, we can reach millions of people and help change their hearts and minds. You can help. Join the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) in a workshop that will build participants’ skills in sharing their stories as a tool for media advocacy.

Summary: LGBTI people need to learn how to effectively ally for the entire community. This interactive workshop will help participants begin to examine how they define diversity inside of the LGBTI community, their values around diversity (orientation, gender, color, religion etc.) and take concrete steps to truly be inclusive and effective.

Session 3 Title: Talking With the GAMe Bois: Breaking Down Stereotypes Location:  VKC 106
Summary: Sit down and chat with other gay/bisexual Asian/Pacific Islanders (API) guys about fitting into gay culture, dating, and sex. Come up with your own ways to stop negative stereotypes from both API and mainstream culture. And remember… no rice queens allowed!

Session 3 Title: The LGBTQ Positive Social Change Agent Location:  VKC 102
Summary: Come learn how to become empowered by expressing yourself appropriately!

Session 3 Title: Trans-Justice Location:  THH 211
Summary: Trans-Justice will provide an open space for Transgender, Gender-Queer and Gender-Non-Conforming communities. Additionally Trans-Justice will provide and understanding of what it means to live in a gendered world. Identify and deconstruct Trans-phobia and Heterosixm. While in the workshop you will participate in a discussion on transphobia within trans and queer youth communities.
